EI2EEN at IMMA

Our first activation of EI2EEN from the Irish Museum of Modern Art took place yesterday, Saturday 12 October 2013 and the station will be active again today (Sunday), thanks to Tom EI7HT.

EI2EEN will be QRV again next Saturday 19 October.

Irish artist Sarah Browne presents her project Remembering Gray, as part of the IMMA Collection exhibition One Foot in the Real World at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, from 12 October to 31 April 2013. This project responds to the life and work of Eileen Gray and is presented alongside a major retrospective exhibition of Gray’s work touring from the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. Eileen Gray was an Irish-born furniture designer and architect and a pioneer of the modern architecture movement. Her best-known work is her villa in the south of France with the coded name of E1027.

Sarah Browne commissioned poet Alice Lyons to create a new work, titled something permanent and invited the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group to participate in the project. The poem will be transmitted in CW by the South Eastern Amateur Group on Saturdays for the duration of the event from a station within the exhibition with the call sign EI2EEN.The exhibition is located in the West Wing Galleries and admission is free. Transmissions will most likely be on 40 and 20 meters depending on band conditions. For more information about this event please click on the following links:

On Sunday, a Carolina Windom was erected and operation was on 40 and 17m. QSOs were worked in England, Wales, Ireland, Finland, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Poland.

Members of the club along with the junior ops enjoyed the scenic route along the River Suir as part of the train ride.

CASHOTA, Refresher Classes & Next Meeting

The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will activate Kells Priory in County Kilkenny over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday 22nd and 23rd of June. Kells Priory has been assigned the CASHOTA number EI023/C and the WAI square is S44 – Co. Kilkenny. Kells Priory is unusual in that it consists of seven castles all within the same site. Its history can be dated back as far as 10th century and it has connections with Strongbow who was involved with the Norman invasion of Ireland.

Plans for the refresher sessions for those wishing to sit the next exam on July 4th have being finalized and are as follows. The three sessions will take place on Wednesday the 19th of June, Wednesday the 26th of June and the final one on Monday the 1st of July. Further info regarding classes can be got from Mark Wall EI7IS on 087 6302026 or from any SEARG committee member. Please note these are just refresher classes and not the entire syllabus for the exam.

The June meeting of the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will take place in the Roanmore Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford on Monday the 24th of June at 8.30 p.m. The meeting will be preceded by a committee meeting at 8.00 p.m. sharp and as always new members are very welcome.

EI2GEO and next meeting.

South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will for the 6th consecutive year take part in the Geoparks Communications weekend which takes place over the weekend of 25th and 26th of May to coincide with European Geoparks week. The event is co-ordinated by Martin G3VOF of the Riviera Amateur Radio Club and awards are available for working Geopark stations including the main station GB6GEO. Although most activity is in Europe, a number of stations will be QRV from geoparks around the world.

SEARG will be QRV as EI2GEO from the Copper Coast Geopark in Co. Waterford. As the Geopark event is not a contest, operation tends to be relaxed with ample time and an ideal location to experiment with antennas.

There is also a strong social aspect to the event with barbecue and drinks on the Saturday night. Activity will be mainly on HF (SSB and CW). The Copper Coast European Geopark is located on the South East coast of Ireland.

SEARG would like to thank Paula McCarthy from the Copper Coast Geopark management for making this excellent site available to us over the past number of years.

*NOTE: The next meeting of SEARG will take place at 8:30 p.m. (local) on Monday 27 May in the Roanmore Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford. All are welcome! (The meeting will be preceeded by a committee-only meeting from 8:00 p.m. sharp).

Next Meeting - Monday 25 March

The next meeting of South Eastern Amateur Radio Group takes place next Monday night (25 March) and is fast approaching, so I am asking members to come along and help make decisions on what YOU the members would like to see happening for this coming year. So just have a think about it and anyone that can't make meetings feel free to contact any committee member with ideas or goals you would like to see SEARG achieve for 2013.

With your help we can have another fantastic year. As membership is running at a very high level I am sure we will have an abundance of members to help out, but what's as important is to grow the membership, so do try and get friends and family involved.

All the best

DAVID, EI6GVB
